What we do

The Division of Public Health connects Alaskans to federal programs, training, oversight, and specialized health services. We provide up-to-date health data for leaders and residents to track health trends, set priorities, and evaluate programs. Regulations focus on safety and quality while reducing administrative burdens.

We support communities working toward a vision of healthy, resilient Alaskans.

Got a Call or Text About a Health Survey?

The Alaska Department of Health, Division of Public Health, often asks people across the state to take part in health surveys. These surveys help us track health trends, improve programs, and better serve Alaskans.

You might be contacted by mail, phone, text, or email. If you're chosen, your input helps us understand what’s working, and what needs work, when it comes to public health in Alaska. Multiple call attempts to a single phone number are typically required to improve validity of the data.

What to Expect from a Real Survey

  • A clear message about the topic
  • Confirmation it's from the Department of Health
  • Contact information for questions about the survey
  • Contact information for the State employee responsible for the survey project

Surveys We Do

  • The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) – Annual phone survey for adults about health habits (like diet, exercise, and more)
  • The Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) – Mailed survey for new moms about pregnancy and birth
  • The Childhood Understanding Behaviors Survey (CUBS) – Follows up with PRAMS moms when their child turns 3
  • Online Surveys – Short surveys on topics like tobacco use and chronic disease. You may get a text from (907) 269 - 0344 with a survey link. The survey is done using the Alchemer platform.
